C. sosnowskyi Kapeller in Mon. Jard. Bot. Tiflis, n.s. 3-4:47 (1927). Ic: Hegi, IH. Fl. Mittel-Eur. ed. 2, 3(2): 582 (1960). Erect annual up to 70-80 cm, loosely branched, ± farinose. Leaves 2-4 x 2-4 cm, broadly ovate-rhombic, with a single (or rarely double) lobe-like tooth on each side in the lower half, or entire. Flowers in small glomeruli, these laxly arranged on elongate branches or in axillary or terminal panicles. Perianth segments with low but distinct keel, ± enclosing the fruit. Pericarp strongly adherent. Seeds falling with the perianth, rounded, with radial furrows and rounded or longish pits with broad flat margins. Fl. 5-8. Cultivated land, river beds, mountain steppe, 800-1500 m. Described from Georgia. B4 Ankara: Ankara to Elma Da., 1939, Kasapligi!l B9 Van: Hoşap to W foot of Kepir Da., D. 23317! Caucasia, E to Iran, Afghanistan and Turkestan. Differs from C. vulvaria in its more erect habit, absence of fish-like smell, usually larger (1-1.4 mm) seeds, and the thicker glomeruli of the inflorescence. Ir.-Tur. element. |
