Woody-based prostrate or subprostrate perennial, densely branched from base. Stems with spreading and adpressed-sericeous hairs, 5-20 cm. Leaves linear to oblanceolate, to 3 cm x 5 mm, long-sericeous with some spreading hairs. Cymes 2-7-flowered, compact, usually terminal, sometimes axillary. Outer sepals ovate-elliptic, 8-10 mm, long-acuminate, hairs± preading. Corolla pink or white, c. 18 mm. Ovary hairy. FI. 5-7. Non-lime screes, shaly slopes, stony steppe, 915-2600 m

Crimea, Caucasia. W. lran. ir.-Tur. element. Closely related to C. lanuginosus Desr. of S.W. Europe and N.W. Africa, and possibly deserving only subspecific status. C. lanuginosus differs in its filiform bracteoles and glabrous ovary.
