C. hirsuta Stapf in Denkschr. Akad. Wiss. Wien, Math.-Nat. Kl. 50:55 (1885). Perennial, 30-100 cm tall, stems densely retrorse-pilose below, sparsely pilose above. Lower leaves simple or lyrate with 1-2 pairs of segments, adpressed-pilose, margin entire or dentate; upper leaves lyrate with 2-4 pairs of segments; in all leaves the terminal segment very much exceeding lateral ones. Capitula globose, 1-2?5 cm diam., subradiant: flowers cream or yellow. Involucral bracts broadly ovate, obtuse, pilose and puberulent; receptacular bracts ovate-oblong, shortly acuminate, puberulent; both brownish-tipped. Involucel pilose, with 4 long and 4 short apical teeth. Fl. 7-8. Type: [W. Iran] in agro Ecbatanensi (Media), Pichler (iso. K!). E. Anatolia, rare.
