C. sparsipilosa Matthews, nom. nov. Syn: C. pilosa Boiss. & Huet in Boiss., Diagn. ser. 2(2): 122 (1856) non Gren. & Godron (1850). Perennial with stems 30-80 cm, sparsely pilose below, glabrous above. Leaves coriaceous, reticulate-veined; lower simple or pinnatisect, upper pinnatisect; terminal segment much larger than lateral ones, entire or serrate, pubescent to sparsely pilose. Capitula l-l?5(-2) cm diam., subradiant; flowers cream to pale yellow. Involucral bracts ovate, obtuse; receptacular bracts ovate-oblong to narrowly obovate, acute; both puberulent, often pilose or sericeous also, straw-coloured, blackish-tipped or completely blackish. Involucel 6-7 mm long, sparsely pilose, with 4 long and 4 short apical teeth. Fl. 7-8. Meadows, slopes, 2000-3050 m. Type: [Turkey B8] in incultis circa urbem Erzeroum, Huet du Pavilion (iso K!). E.
