E. distachya L., Sp. PL 1040 (1753). [1:85] subsp. monostachya (L.) H. Riedl in Sci. Pharm. 35:228(1967). Syn: E.monostachya L., Sp. PL 1040 (1753) non Guss. (1826), nomen nec Turcz. (1854). Differs from subsp. distachya in having the micropylar tube twisted (at least sometimes), seeds scarcely reaching 5 mm (not 5.5-7 mm), and branches smooth or nearly so. Sandy shores, nr s.l. Described from Siberia (Hb. Linn. 1200/4, photo!). Turkey-in-Europe. A1(E) Çanakkale: Ariburnu, s.l., A. Baytop (ISTE 17891); ibid., A. Baytop (ISTE 20851). (Both determined by H. Riedl: see Notes R.B.G. Edinb. 38:294, 1980). Hungary to Siberia. Euro-Sib, element. The records of E. distachya cited in vol. I of Flora of Turkey still require confirmation. Subsp. distachya is confined to the W. & C. Mediterranean area. RiedI (loc. cit., 1980) considers E. podostylax Boiss. worthy of at least subspecific, and possibly specific, rank; it was treated as a synonym of E. distachya by Coode & Cullen [1:85]. |
