A. comosoides Chamb. & Matthews in Notes R.B.G. Edinb. 29: 291 (1969). Figure 1, p. 91. Scapose or caulescent perennial with a woody caudex. Leaves 6-10 cm; leaflets6-8 mm, oblong, sparsely simple-pilose, hairs sometimes restricted to the mid-veins, 8-14-paired; stipules 4-6 mm, lanceolate. Peduncles 10-16 cm. Inflorescence a lax, cylindrical, 20-60-flowered spike. Bracts c. 6 mm, linear-lanceolate. Calyx 10-12 mm, tubular, sparsely black and white simple-villose; teeth c. 3 mm, setaceous. Corolla violet or whitish; standard 16-22 mm. Legume c. 10 mm, ovoid, sessile, laterally compressed, long white simple-pilose. Fl. 5-6. Steppe, stony places, cultivated land, 1700-2380 m. Type: Turkey B9 Van: E. side of pass between Hoşap and Başkale, 2380 m, Davis 44740 (holo. E!). S.E. Anatolia. B10 Van: 3-4 km NE of Başkale, 2300 m, D. 44522! C10 Hak-kari: 21 km from Bacirge to Yüksekova, 2230 m, D. 45244! Endemic; Ir.-Tur. element. Closely related to A. comosus Bunge, an Iranian species which differs in its narrowly oblong leaflets, and its densely, predominantly white-hairy calyces. A. comosus has been recorded from C8 Siirt: Heraköl Da., Çat, Frödin 68, a record which should perhaps be referred to A. comosoides. |
