H. formosum Fisch. & Mey. ex Basiner in Mem. Sav.Étr. Acad. Pétersb. 6:69 (1851). Syn: H. buhseanum Boiss. & Buhse in Nouv. Mem. Soc. Nat. Mosc. 12:174 (1860). Ic: Grossh., Fl. Kavk. 5: t. 40, 2 (1952). Stems erect, thick, branched above, 20-70 cm. Leaves with 5-9 pairs of elliptic leaflets, c. 12 x 5 mm, green and ± glabrous above, whitish below with an adpressed pilose indumentum; stipules large, connate below, often free above. Peduncles equal to or shorter than leaves. Inflorescence dense, spicate, elongating in fruit. Calyx 8-9 mm with ± unequal teeth 2(-3) x longer than tube. Corolla yellowish (?); standard 18-19 mm, clearly emarginate; wings 13-14 x 1.5-2 mm; keel 14 mm. Ovary glabrous. Lomentum with 3-5 subelliptic rugose, pubescent, spinulose segments. Fl. 5. Saline habitats (?). Type: [Iran, Azerbaijan] Khoi (Khvoy), 2 v 1828, Szovits 167 (holo. LE, iso. K!). N.E. Anatolia. A9 Kars: E of Tuzluca (Grossheim 5: map 435). N.W. Iran. A distinct species recognised by its thick stems, narrow corolla wings, and the large stipules. Some of the records of this species are from saline habitats. |
