Leaflets 8-15 x 5-8 mm, obovate-cuneate, obtuse, apiculate, dentate in the upper part. Peduncle 5-12(-15)-flowered, about equal to petiole. Flowers 7-10mm. Calyx teeth longer than tube. Corolla at least 2 x calyx. Young fruit protruding sideways from calyx. Fruit discoid or cylindrical, truncate at both ends, to 4 mm high, usually with short and thin spines, sometimes nearly spineless, villosulous; coils 2½-3(-4), 5-7 mm diam., loose; surface of coils with a small number of radial veins branching near lateral vein. Fl. 2-6. Coastal sands, rarely on shingle or sea cliffs, nr. s.l. Type in Hb. Cliff.! Described from Mediterranean shores. Coasts of Turkey and Islands.
