Perennial with many procumbent or ascending stems, 15-60 cm. Leaves with 6-8 pairs of oblong-elliptic or linear-oblong leaflets, c. 10 x 2 mm, adpressed pilose on both surfaces or almost glabrous above; stipules connate, membranous, ciliate on margins. Peduncles as long as or up to 2 x length of the leaves. Racemes ovate-oblong or narrow oblong, elongating in fruit. Calyx 5-7 mm long, glabrous on tube and pilose on margins or adpressed or spreading pilose all over; teeth 2 x length of tube. Corolla pink with darker striations; standard 7-9(-10) mm, often emarginate; wings 2.5-4 mm; keel 7-9(-10) mm. Fruit 5 mm with teeth on crest and disc up to 2 mm, rarely subabsent, adpressed pilose with short hairs. Fl. 5-8. Rocky, often limestone, slopes, roadside, macchie, in Quercus scrub, 100-2000 m.

Endemic. A very common, widespread and most variable species, O. armena is very closely related to O. oxyodonta but distinguished from it by the short fruiting peduncles. It is also very closely allied to O. arenaria, a widely distributed and very polymorphic European species, in which seven subspecies are recognised in Flora Europaea (vol. 2:190, 1968). Subspecific status might also be preferablefor O. oxyodonta and O. armena, but more investigation is needed. One of the most polymorphic species in Turkey, O. armena varies greatly in the size and shape of the leaflets, indumentum density and corolla size, but as the variation is continuous and without any relation to geography, no subspecific taxa have been recognised.
