Transcaucasia, W. Syria, Iran; C. Asia, Soviet Central Asia? Ir.-Tur. element. The status of certain C. Asian taxa (e.g. E. labiosiformis (M. Popov) Knorring) is doubtful; they are perhaps best included within the E. laciniata complex. Popov's subdivision of the species into several subspecies based principally on density of indumentum is not upheld; variation of different characters seems not to be correlated.
