Herb 10-40 cm, ± eglandular. Leaves greenish, loosely subadpressed stellate-tomentose above, more densely greyish-tomentose beneath, basal leaves linear-lanceolate, acutish, 2-12 x 0.7-2 cm, tapering into a petiole to 5 cm;cauline leaves smaller, shortly petiolate. Floral leaves linear to linear-lanceolate, as long as or lower up to 3 x as long as verticillasters. Verticillasters 24, lower distant, 4-10-flowered. Bracteoles linear-subulate, 8-12 mm, stellate-tomentose. Calyx 12-14 mm, with very dense spreading (rarely subadpressed) indumentum of yellowish stellate hairs, teeth ovate-triangular, acuminate, 3-7 mm. Corolla yellow, 30-35 mm. Nutlets hairy at apex. Fl. 6-8. Steppe, rocky igneous slopes, volcanic rubble, 1350-2400 m.
