S. atropatana Bunge, Lab. Pers. 47 (1873). Syn: S. montbretii Bentham var. virescens Freyn in Bull. Herb. Boiss. ser. 2, 1:278 (1901)! S. linguifolia Hedge & Hub.-Mor. in Notes R.B.G. Edinb. 22:181 (1957)! Perennial herb with a woody rootstock. Stems several, 25-70 cm, erect, usually densely glandular-pilose (or arachnoid-eglandular with sessile glands). Leaves mostly basal, linear to linear-oblong, 10-15(-20) x 0.5-3(-5) cm, arach-noid-tomentose with sessile glands to ± lanate, entire (on linear leaves), serrate to suberose, cuneate; petiole 3-9 cm. Inflorescence paniculate, narrowly ob-pyramidal. Verticillasters 4-6-flowered, approximating above. Bracts ovate-acuminate, c. 8-15 x 7-10 mm. Pedicels 2-4 mm. Calyx ± campanulate, 8-10 mm, densely glandular, to 11-13 mm in fruit; upper lip indistinctly triden-tate. Corolla white, or with a yellow lip, 20-25 mm; tube 7-8 mm ventricose, squamulate; upper lip strongly falcate. Stamens B. Nutlets ovoid, c. 3 x 2.5 mm. Fl. 6-7.
