Leaves 5-6, longer than scape, outer one (6-)14-17(-20) mm broad, margin glaucous, shortly ciliate. Scapes l-2(-3), to 30 cm. Raceme ellipsoid to cylindrical, axis violet. Pedicels c. as long as perianth, soon elongating, patent at first then arcuate, violet. Flower buds greenish-white with purplish tinge. Perianth greenish-white, violet towards base, becoming pale grey-brown, (8-)9-l 1 mm, tubular-campanulate, lobes c. 1/2 x tube. Fruiting raceme cylindrical; pedicels to 2 cm, arcuate. Valves of capsule (10-)12-13 x 9-10 mm, suborbic-ular or broadly ovate, retuse. 2n = 16. Fl. 5. Steep, loose slopes. Type: Iraq: Amadia, in fields in the valley, and in deep soil pockets on the hillside, 1067 m, 1931, Guest (holo. HUJ). E. Anatolia; rare. C9 Hakkari: Zab gorge, at turning to Hakkari, Rix 1918! N. Iraq. Ir.-Tur. element. Chromosome numbers of 2n = 8 and 16 have been reported from Iraq (von Bothmer and Wendelbo in Nordic J. Bot. 1:5 & 9, 1981). |
