Bulb to 3 cm diam., with few bulblets. Stem 10-20 cm, smooth. Leaves 3-5, shining green, all alternate, lowest 8-12 x 1-2 cm, narrowly lanceolate, acute. Radical leaves narrowly lanceolate. Flowers solitary, perianth narrowly campanulate, usually rounded, outside purplish-grey, glaucous, inside yellowish; segments 20-28 mm, outer 6-7 mm broad, ovate to ovate-lanceolate,obtuse or acute, inner 6-12 mm broad, obovate, obtuse. Nectaries 4 x 1.3 mm, 1 mm above perianth base. Filaments 6-9 mm, papillose, swollen. Style 5-7 mm, 3-4 mm diam., stout, undivided, papillose. Capsule not winged. Water meadows, c. 1450 rn.
