Scapes l-3(-10), 6-8(-14) cm. Raceme 1-2-flowered; pedicels usually curved, shorter than perianth segments. Bracts amplexicaul (cuff-shaped), bifid, deltoid, 1-2 mm, usually truncate, cordate and inflated at base. Perianth segments deep blue, often white at base, with dark midrib, (10-)13-15 x (3-)4-5 mm, spreading, conduplicate at base. Filaments 1-2 mm broad at base. Ovary subglobose, 3-5 mm diam. Style relatively short and thick, (3-)4-6 mm. Seeds ovoid, c. 3 x 2 mm, pale brown with white cylindrical caruncle. 2n = 12 (as S, monanthos). Fl. (3-j4-5(-6j.
