T. armena Boiss,, Diagn. ser. 2(4):99 (1859). Syn: T. gesneriana sensu Hall, Genus Tulipa 95 (1940) p.p. quoad speciminibus ex Asia Minori non L. (1753). Ic: Hall, Genus Tulipa t. XX (1940).
Tunics papery or old ones coriaceous, thinly to densely hairy. Leaves 3-4, glaucous, glabrous or ciliate, mostly undulate and recurved, 6-20 x 1.5-3.5 cm. Flowers crimson to scarlet, paler red, pinkish or yellow outside, with short black blotch, rimmed with yellow or not, or flowers yellow with or without black blotch, or flowers part yellow, part red. Outer perianth segments 23-58 x 9-27 mm, crrate-elliptic, ovate to obovate; inner 20-45 x 7-20 mm,,obovate-spathulate to obovate. Filaments black, 6-12.5 mm; anthers yellow or dark, 4-13 mm. Ovary glaucous, hardly narrowed below stigma. Capsule 25-45 nun, ovoid to ellipsoid, apiculate, shortly stipitate. Fl. 4-6. Rocky slopes and screes, mainly 1000-2750 m.
