Plants 7-25(-30) cm. Stem hollow, with 3-6 ovate to lanceolate leaves;lower leaves obtuse, upper acute, equalling or exceeding spike, all with numerous minute blackish-violet spots or fine streaks, sometimes regularly arranged in lines parallel to veins, or unspotted, sometimes flushed with purplish-violet on both sides. Spike shortly cylindrical, 3-7 cm, dense. Lower bracts lanceolate, exceeding flowers, ± spotted or tinged blackish-violet. Flowers dark magenta purple or crimson. Sepals ovate-lanceolate, acute or acuminate, ± faintly spot-ted, to 12(-14) x 5 mm. Petals slightly smaller. Labellum usually broader than long, 9-10 x 8-11(-15) mm, entire or subentire, margins irregularly erose-dentate or even fringed, faintly spotted, slightly papillose towards base. Spur saccate-cylindrical, ± obtuse, shorter than ovary, 6-9 mm, to 3-4 mm broad near base.
