Annual herb. Stems erect, up to 60 cm, spreading-setose below, adpressed above. Leaves pinnatisect, the terminal segment about equalling the laterals. Peduncles adpressed-setose. Petals 2-4 cm, pale scarlet. Capsule ovoid-oblong, tapering to the base, length/breadth ratio 3-7: 1. Fl. 4-6. Waste ground, fields, etc., up to 2200 m. Described from Switzerland and Britain (Hb.
