F. chalcophaea V. Krecz. & Bobrov in Fl. URSS 2:768 (1934).
Densely caespitose perennial. Stems 15-50 cm, erect, smooth. Leaf sheaths closed nearly to mouth, rather hispid (or somewhat ciliate), finally brownish and decaying into fibres; ligule extremely short, scabrid. Leaf blades scabrid or very scabrid all over, not or only slightly rigid, 0.25-0.8 mm broad;veins 5, ribs 3, prominent for 1/2 their length, with long hairs above, epidermis cells large; sclerenchyma strands 7, unequal. Panicle 3-8 cm, erect, somewhat inter-rupted, rather narrow; branches scabrid, rather short, lowest with 1-2 spikelets. Spikelets variegated green and golden brown or green and dark violet, glossy in their glabrous parts, oblong-ovate, (6-)6.5-8 mm, with 4-6 florets. Glumes subequal, acuminate, upper 3-4.3 x 1.2-1.7 mm, scabrid and golden margined near apex. Lemma lanceolate, moderately (or rather suddenly) acuminate, 4.6-5.3 x 1.6-2.1 mm, variegated pinkish-violet to dark violet, with golden scarious margin near apex, scabrid in upper part. Awn 1.2-2.5 mm. Palea densely hispid in upper part. Ovary with several hairs. Fl. 7-8. Alpine mea-dows, rocky slopes, 2700-3200 m.
