Densely caespitose perennial. Stems 40-100 cm, glabrous, puberulent only below nodes. Leaf sheaths glabrous. Ligules 0.2-0.5 mm. Leaf blades setaceous, tapering to a long hair-like bristle, sharply scabrid. Panicle narrow, contracted, partially enclosed by uppermost leaf sheath. Glumes subequal, long-acuminate, 5-6.5 cm. Lemma 18-20 mm, uniformly hairy below, with 7 rows of hairs above not reaching apex. Awn 35-50 cm, bi-geniculate; column glabrous; bristle plumose. Fl. 6-7. Meadows and upland steppe, c. 2350 m.

N.E. Anatolia; rare. A8 Erzurum: 28 km N.W. of Aşkale, 4 km S.E. below Kop Da. pass, 2350 m, Ehrend. et al. 787-139-7(!). A9 Kars: Sarykamysh (Sarikamiş) to 'Promezhutoznoje', Litvinov 4902b! nr Kurtkale (Grossheim l:map 134).
