T. caput-medusae (L.) Nevski in Acta Univ. Asiae Med. ser. 8b (Bot.), 17:38 (1934). Syn: Elymus caput-medusae L., Sp. PL 1:84 (1753);Hordeum caput-medusae (L.) Cosson & Durieu, Expl. Sci. Alg. 2:198 (1856).
Stems 5-50 cm, glabrous. Leaf blades 2-5 mm broad, flat, convolute when dry, glabrous or scabrid, sparsely pilose on veins above and on margins, glab-rous beneath. Spike 2.5-5 cm (excl. awns). Glumes 2-3.5 cm (incl. awns), erect, ascending from near base, or ± spreading or reflexed. Lemma glabrous or scabrid.
