P. arenastrum Bor., FI. Centr. Fr. ed. 3, 2:559 (1857). Syn: P. aequale Lindm. in Sv. Bot. Tidskr. 6: 692 (1912); P. aviculare subsp. aequale (Lindm.) Asch. & Graebn., Syn. 4: 848 (1913). Annual herb. Stems usually procumbent or prostrate, mat-forming. Ochreae much shorter than the internodes, brownish-based, with faint nerves. Leaves elliptic. Flowers borne in fascicles in the axils of the upper leaves. Perianth less than 3 mm, pinkish or white, divided into lobes for about 1/2 its length. Nut dull, 1.5-2 mm, not or scarcely exserted from the perianth. Fl. 6-11. Roadsides, waste places, slopes, etc., s.1.-2300 m. Type: none designated. A2(E) Istanbul: Kiathane, 25 v 1917, Azn!
