P. polycnemoides Jaub. & Spach, 111. Or. 2: 30, t. 120 (1844-46). Prostrate annual. Stems branched, 5-25 cm. Leaves and ochreae overlapping.
Ochreae broadly triangular, completely membranous, without obvious nerves. Leaves small, linear to lanceolate, flat or subrevolute. Flowers borne in fascicles in the axils of the upper leaves. Perianth whitish, 1.5-2 mm. Nut shining, included in the perianth. Fl. 8. Sandy fiats & fields, up to 2350 m or more. Type: [Iraq] prope Bagdad, Aucher 2590.
