R. kotschyi Boiss., Diagn. ser. 1(6): 5 (1846-47). Syn: R. calvertii Boiss. & Huet in Boiss., Diagn. ser. 2(5): 8 (1856)! R. anemonifolius DC. var. calvertii (Boiss. & Huet) Boiss., Fl. Or. 1: 50 (1867)! R. anemonifolius subsp. kotschyi (Boiss.) Busch, Fl. Cauc. Crit. 3(3): 146 (1903)! Figures 3, 5, pp. 155, 173. Perennial, 25-50 cm. Stem branched, glabrous or spreading-pilose. Radical leaves trisect, segments cuneate, deeply divided into oblong, toothed or laciniate (rarely oblong-lanceolate and entire) lobes. Peduncles terete. Sepals strongly reflexed. Petals 7-18 mm. Torus glabrous, achene suborbicular, strongly compressed, c. 4 m scarcely keeled; beak uncinate, 0.75-1.5 mm. Fl. 5-6. Meadows, flushes, forest clearings, rocky slopes, 1300-2400 m. Type: [Iran] in paludosis alpis Kuh Daena, Kotschy 606 (K! BM!). Cappadocia, E. Anatolia & Lazistan. A7 Giresun: Alucra, 1300 m. Stn. & Hend. 5064! A9 Çoruh: Kordevan Da., nr. Kütül Y., 2100 m, D. 30191! Kars: Kars (Grossheim 4: map 73). 35 Kayseri: Argaeus (Ercias Da.). 27 v 1859. Kotschy ! B6 Kayseri/Sivas: E side of pass, Pinarbaşi to Gürün, 1800 m. D. 21961! B7 Erzincan: Egin (Kemaliye), Hochadur Da.. Sint. 1889: 2225! B8 Erzurum: Erzurum, Huet (syntype of R. calvertii)! B9 Van: Çatak, Kavuşşahap Da., 2400 m, D. 23025! W. Iran, Transcaucasia: Turkestan? Very variable in leaf shape. Plants with ± solid stems, leaf segments with divergent lobes, smaller flowers and a shorter achenial beak were referred by Davis (Notes R.B.G. Edinb. 23:114) to R. calvertii, but the characters are too poorly correlated to justify specific separation. This is the commonest form in dryish habitats in Turkey and in facies resembles R. polyanthemos. R. kotschy i (sensu lato) grows in a variety of habitats and requires further study. |
