Differs from R. damascenus in having the leaf segments always divergent above with more numerous teeth, narrower petals, narrower, oblong fruiting heads, and glabrous, slightly smaller achenes with an erect beak. Fl. 5-6. Stony slopes and fields, c. 400-1650 m. Described from Terek river in Caucasus (erroneously cited as Siberia). N. Armenia to Galatia & Paphlagonia.
