Map 5. p. 7. Spiny shrubs or small trees; twigs pubescent. Leaves up to 5 x 2.5 cm, obovate to elliptic, crenate-serrate, glabrescent above, persistently pubescent beneath. Petioles up to c. 1 cm. Flowers white, l(-2), appearing before the leaves, c. 1.5 cm diam.; pedicels up to 1 cm, pubescent; sepals ciliate, glabrous to pubescent. Drupes erect, globose, 10-15 mm diam., bluish-black pruinose, flesh green, sour; stone adherent to pericarp, smooth or slightly scabrous. Fl. 3-4. In scrub and forest remnants, s. 1.-1700 m. A variable species especially in the pubescence of its leaves, shoots and pedicels, with several infraspecific taxa described (see Domin, op. cit.). Records from C6 Hatay: 'Amanus Mts.', G. Post and from C8 Mardin: Mardin (fide Mout., Nouv. Fl. Lib. Syr. 2:200, 1970) may be referable to P. divaricata subsp. ursina. Subsp. spinosa, a European taxon, differs in having glabrous shoots and leaves. |
