Similar to S. pentandra, but differing in position of buds on twigs, buds not adpressed to surface of twig, distinctly divergent, ovoid, thicker (2-2.5 mm) at middle, obtuse; twigs olive- or rufous-brown (vinous-red to dark brown in S. pentandra); leaves lighter dull-green on upper surface (glossy and dark green in S. pentandra); petiole often shorter, 3-8(-10) mm; anthers slightly larger, 0.5-0.8 mm. Fl. 6. Riversides, by springs, 1.600-1900 m. Syntypes: [USSR] Caucasus septentr., prov. Kuban, in angust. Dshalan-kol, 22 v 1908, N. & E.
