P. latifolia (L.) Caruel in Parl., Fl. Ital. 6:482 (1885). Syn: Euphrasia latifolia L., Sp. Pl. 604 (1753); Eufragia latifolia (L.) Griseb., Spic. 2:14 (1844). Ic: Reichb., Ic. Fl. Germ. 20: t. 1725 (1861), as Eufragia latifolia; Fl. URSS 22: t. 32 f. 1 (1955). Annual, glandular-pubescent. Stems erect, (10-)18-30 cm. often coloured, un-branched or with short suberect branches. Leaves ovate, 5-12x3-10 mm, deeply and ± regularly serrate, sessile, acute. Inflorescence a terminal bracteate spike-like raceme. Pedicels 0.5-1 mm. Calyx tubular, 7-16 mm; lobes 2-7 mm, linear-lanceolate. Corolla reddish-purple, pink or pale sulphur-yellow, 8-18 mm, glabrous or pubescent. ± persistent; tube 5-1 3 mm; lower lip ± equally 3-lobed. Anthers glabrous, mucronate or obtuse. Capsule 7-14 x 2-3.5 mm. Fl. 4-6. Rocky limestone and igneous slopes, macchie, grassland, forest, cornfields, nr s. l.-1400 m. l. Flowers reddish-purple or pink subsp. latifolia 1. Flowers yellow subsp. flaviflora subsp. flaviflora (Boiss.) Hand.-Mazz. in Ann. Mus. Wien 27:16 (1913). Syn: Eufragia latifolia (L.)
