N., W. & C. Europe, Italy (?), Jugoslavia, Bulgaria, Caucasia, Crimea, Palestine, N. Iran, Turkestan. Although several other species of Rhinanthus have been recorded from Turkey (such as R. minor L., 'major' L., 'crista-galli' L., tournefortii Jaub. & Spach and R. glandulosus Simonkai), these all seem to be based on misidentifications. The only taxon I have recognized seems in no way to differ from the widespread European subspecies. Its nomenclature and status can only be finalized by a more broadly-based revision than presently is at hand.
