Biennial, 30-150 cm, with soft and ± dense, greyish or whitish floccose-tomen-tose indumentum, eglandular. Stem robust, terete or striate and obscurely angular, with sparse or numerous branches. Basal leaves oblong- to linear-lanceolate, 10-40 x 1.5-12 cm, ± distinctly crenulate or entire, acutish to acuminate, petiole winged, 2-7 cm. Inflorescence lax, branched, forming broad panicle, rarely simple, with clusters of 2-7 flowers. Bracts orbicular-triangular to ovate-lanceolate, acuminate. Pedicels to 10 mm; bracteoles lanceolate. Calyx 6-10 mm, lobes linear-lanceolate, acute. Corolla yellow, 25-35 mm diam., without pellucid glands, tomentose outside. Stamens 5, filaments with whitish-yellow wool up to anthers. Capsule ovate to ovate-elliptic, 5-7 x 4-5 mm, tomentose, glabrescent. Fl. 6-7. Quercus scrub, steppe, volcanic slopes, 810-2220 m.
