V. pusilla Kotschy, Pl. Pers. Austr. (Ed. Hohenacker), no. 717 (1845) non Bentham in DC. (1846). Annual, erect, 2-8(-15) cm, unbranched or slightly branched above, blackening when dry. Stems puberulent with upward-curved 0.05-0.2 mm hairs, eglandular. Petiole 0-1 mm, lamina elliptic, oblanceolate or oblong, rarely linear, 2-6(-12)x 0.5-2.5(-3.5) mm, entire, glabrous (rarely margin puberulent). Raceme l-15(-25)-flowered, sometimes dense, axis usually ± flexuous; with or without eglandular hairs, without or with very few scattered 3-4-celled 0.1-0.2 mm glandular hairs, rarely more densely glandular-puberulent. Fruiting pedicels (3-)3.5-7 mm, 0.8-1.2(-2.5) x bracts, patent at base, usually arcuate-erect, rarely ± hooked, usually without glandular hairs, often completely glabrous. Bracts oblong or subspathulate, often similar to leaves. Calyx lobes oblong to obovate. Corolla pale blue or white, 2-3 mm diam. Style 0.3-0.6 mm. Capsule hygrochastic, suborbicular, (1 .5-)2-2.5(-3) x (2.5-)3-4(-4.5) mm, slightly exceeding calyx, pale straw-coloured, usually glabrous, sinus acute, ½ x capsule, lobes erect, not divergent; base broadly truncate to subcordate; style ⅓-½ x sinus. Seeds 10-20, elliptic to oblong, (0.9-)l-l.4x (0.5-)0.6-0.8 mm, pale, convex, dorsally sub-rugulose, ventrally with a large, slightly elevated chalazal podium, seeds therefore ± marginate (similar to V. reuterana but less distinct); sticky when wet. 2/7= 14.
