C. marantae (L.) Domin, in Bibl. Bot. 20: 133 (1915). Syn: Acrostichum marantae L., Sp. PL 1071 (1753); Nothochlaena marantae (L.) Desv. in J. Bot. Appl. 1: 92 (1813). Ic.: Hegi, Fl. Mittel-Eur. ed. 2, 1: f. 43 (1935). Plant 12-30 cm. Rhizome short, prostrate, densely covered with narrowly lanceolate, light brown scales; fronds tufted. Rachis polished, red-brown, 1/2 or more length of frond, lamina 1-2 pinnate, ultimate pinnules oblong, 5-10 x 2-3 mm, upper surface glabrous, lower surface and axes with dense, pale then rust-brown, narrowly lanceolate scales.
