V. leucophaea DC, Prodr. 4:641 (1830). Syn: V. bracteata Boiss., Fl. Or. 3:91 (1875). Map 80, p. 555. Perennial herb. Upper root tuberous. Stem erect, 10-30 cm, sulcate, glabrous. Basal leaves simple, rarely divided, oblanceolate-elliptic, gradually attenuated into a petiole, obtuse, 5-10 cm long, glabrous. Lower cauline leaves similar to basal leaves, or pinnatisect, 1-3-paired; lobes linear-lanceolate, sessile; upper cauline leaves always pinnatisect with filiform lobes. Inflorescence dense, convex, (l-)2 cm diam. in flower. Bracts lanceolate, c. 6 mm long, exceeding fruit, often black with a white membranous margin. Flowers pink, or white or pale violet. Achene pubescent between the veins with 6-8 pappus segments. Fl. 5-7. Grassy and rocky slopes, 1000-3000 m. " Scattered in N. & Inner Anatolia. A5 Samsun: Havza, 1000 m, Tobey 918!
